Hymns of praise

Praise is the oldest work of the church: telling God how great and good he is, simply because he is. The great hymns of praise have strong tunes and big words — holy, glory, hallelujah — and they lift a congregation's eyes from itself to God.

This is the largest theme in the library, so the most widely sung come first: hymns like “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!,” “All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name” and “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” that appear in almost every hymnal. Use them to open a service, after a reading, or whenever the church gathers to give thanks. Many have chord charts you can transpose, and many have a free play-along accompaniment. All are in the public domain.

If you are choosing for a congregation that rarely sings hymns, start with the best-known list at the top — those tunes are the easiest to pick up. For a hymn sing, print a packet of favorites with the button below.
