Hymn tune
WEIL ICH JESU SCHÄFLEIN BIN
WEIL ICH JESU SCHÄFLEIN BIN is a hymn tune in 7.7.8.8.7.7, credited to 1784 from Bruder Choral-Buch (1784). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from Church Book for the Use of Evangelical Lutheran Congregations, 1893 Hymn 531. Hymnal arranged by Harriet Reynolds Krauth (1845-1925). Translation is public domain per LSB 2006 Hymn 740). Choose any text below and press play to hear the words sung to WEIL ICH JESU SCHÄFLEIN BIN, with the lines highlighted as they come — on organ, piano or guitar, in any key.
