Hymn tune
VON GOTT WILL ICH NICHT LAZEN
VON GOTT WILL ICH NICHT LAZEN is a hymn tune in 7.6.7.6.6.7.7.6, composed by Johann Crüger (1598–1662) (1640). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "Kern des Deutschen Kirchengesangs Zum Gebrauch" Fridrich Layriz, 1854 Hymn 576. Translation "Sacred Hymns from the German", 1841, pdf page 53 except verse 6 from "Evangelical Lutheran Hymn Book", 1931 Hymn 233.).
