Hymn tune
POTSDAM
POTSDAM is a hymn tune in Short Meter (6.6.8.6), composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
125 hymns in this library share its meter and can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "The Church Psalter and Hymn Book", 1863 hymns 212-214 (rev. from 1854 edition). Mus. Dir and arrangements by John Goss. Words match those in "Hymns Ancient And Modern", 1904, Hymn 251).
