Hymn tune
LOBE DEN HERREN
LOBE DEN HERREN is a hymn tune in 14.14.4.7.8, credited to 1665 from Ander Theil des Erneuerten Gesangbuch (1665). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "The Chorale Book for England", 1863 Hymn 9. Ed. Winkworth (words) and Bennett (music)., slightly alt. per "Evangelical Lutheran Hymn-Book", 1931.). Choose any text below and press play to hear the words sung to LOBE DEN HERREN, with the lines highlighted as they come — on organ, piano or guitar, in any key.
