Hymn tune
DIE GÜLDNE SONNE
DIE GÜLDNE SONNE is a hymn tune in 5.5.5.5.10.5.6.5.6.10, composed by Johann Georg Ebeling (1637–1676). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "The Parish School Hymnal", 1925 Hymn 70 Lyrics source: "The Church Psalter and Hymn Book", 1858 Hymn 500 for vs. 1, 5-9 Lyrics source: "The Selah Songbook", 1926 Hymn 153 for vs. 2-4). Choose any text below and press play to hear the words sung to DIE GÜLDNE SONNE, with the lines highlighted as they come — on organ, piano or guitar, in any key.
