BLESSED ASSURANCE

BLESSED ASSURANCE is a hymn tune in 9.10.9.9.9.9.9.9, composed by Phoebe Palmer Knapp (1839–1908) (1873). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.

In this library it is the tune for 1 hymn, listed below.

The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "The Lesser Hymnal", 1875 hymn 323. Most of hymnal does not contain 4 part music. This does, attr. to Mrs. Joseph Knapp.). Choose any text below and press play to hear the words sung to BLESSED ASSURANCE, with the lines highlighted as they come — on organ, piano or guitar, in any key.
