Hymn tune
AUF, AUF, MEIN HERZ MIT FREUDEN
AUF, AUF, MEIN HERZ MIT FREUDEN is a hymn tune in 7.6.7.6.6.6.6.6, composed by Johann Crüger (1598–1662) (1648). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (copied from "Mehrstimmiges ChoralBuch", 1906 Hymn #14 Ed. Karl Brauer. translation blended between "Paul Gerhardt's Spiritual Songs" by John Kelly, 1867 page 71-74 and ELHB, 1931.). Choose any text below and press play to hear the words sung to AUF, AUF, MEIN HERZ MIT FREUDEN, with the lines highlighted as they come — on organ, piano or guitar, in any key.
