Hymn tune
AU MEINES HERZENS GRUNDE
AU MEINES HERZENS GRUNDE is a hymn tune in 7.6.7.6.6.7.7.6, composed by David Wolder (1504–1604) (1598). In a hymnal the tune has a name of its own, printed in capitals, because the same music carries many texts: any hymn written in its meter can be sung to it.
The four-part harmony played here comes from the Open Hymnal Project's public-domain edition (Music and Lyrics source: "Hymnal for Church and Home", Danish Evangelical Lutheran Synods, 1927 Hymn 157. Tune first published in David Wolder's Neu Catechismus Gesangbüchlein, Hamburg, 1598 Note that this arrangement actually tweaks the original melody here and there, but without changing the meter. Thus the soprano line does not fully match the same tune for different texts in different hymnals. I assume that both those changes and the arrangement are probably the work of the hymnal team of 1927.).
