- 1Ride on, ride on in majesty!
- Hark! all the tribes hosanna cry:
- O Savior meek, pursue Thy road
- With palms and scattered garments strowed.
- 2Ride on, ride on in majesty!
- The angel armies of the sky
- Look down with sad and wond'ring eyes,
- To see th'approaching Sacrifice.
- 3Ride on, ride on in majesty!
- The last and fiercest strife is nigh:
- The Father on His sapphire throne
- Expects His own anointed Son.
- 4Ride on, ride on in majesty!
- In lowly pomp ride on to die;
- Bow Thy meek head to mortal pain,
- Then take, O God, Thy pow'r and reign.
- 5Amen.
About this music
WINCHESTER NEW — Hamburg, 1690 from "Musikalisches Handbuch". 'Winchester New' from "Musikalisches Handbuch", Hamburg, 1690. Setting: Charles Lewis Hutchins, 1896.. The score is from the Open Hymnal Project, sometimes wrongly attr. to John Rippon (1751-1836) because it is in a book "Selection of Hymns, from the best authors" by Rippon, hymn 50, (original in 1787, I found the 1850 reprint). Music source: The Church Hymnal, 1896 Hymn 197. Ed. Charles Lewis Hutchins Setting somewhat diff from "hymns ancient and modern", 1869; music and setting are in the public domain. The words above are from the hymnal cited on the Ride on! ride on in majesty! page.
