Hymns for Holy Communion

Whether your church calls it Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper or the Eucharist, the meal Jesus gave his disciples on the night he was betrayed has gathered its own hymns. They remember his body broken and his blood poured out, give thanks for the welcome of his table, and look ahead to the feast of heaven.

Communion hymns are usually sung in one of two places: just before the bread and cup are shared, to prepare hearts, or during the distribution, while people come forward or the elements are passed along the pews. For the second, choose a hymn with a gentle tune and several verses that can be sung slowly or hummed by an instrument alone.

The first list is hymns many churches sing at the table; below it are the rest of the library's communion hymns. All are in the public domain, so you may print or project them freely.
