Name Origin & Meaning
Possibly from an Arabic root meaning 'to wrap' or 'to veil.' Lot's life was marked by things covered and uncovered: he chose the well-watered plains while veiled to their hidden corruption. The name's opacity matches the moral ambiguity of his story.

Biblical Significance
Lot was the nephew of Abraham who settled near Sodom and was twice rescued — first from Chedorlaomer by Abraham, then from Sodom's destruction by angels. Peter calls him 'righteous Lot' (2 Peter 2:7–8) yet his choices consistently moved toward worldly comfort. His daughters' incest in the cave produced Moab and Ammon. Jesus cited Lot's wife as a warning against looking back.
