Name Origin & Meaning
Dual roots: Persian 'stara' (star) and Hebrew 'satar' (to hide, conceal). Both meanings weave through her story — a hidden Jewish identity in a pagan court who became a star of deliverance for her people. Biblical Significance
Esther was a Jewish orphan raised by Mordecai who became queen of Persia under Ahasuerus. When Haman plotted genocide against the Jewish people, Mordecai urged her: 'Who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?' She risked her life by appearing before the king unsummoned, exposed Haman's plot, and secured the survival of her people. Purim is celebrated annually in her memory.
